Do you add sugar to your smoothies?
No, we do not add any sugar, corn syrup or other junk.
What makes Switchback different from other green powders?
Most green powders are not a significant source of micronutrients. We pack in vegetables in copious amounts to get the nutrients you need and mask the greens with fruit you love.
Are you a juice or a smoothie?
Juices typically contain no fiber. Switchbacks retain the natural fiber giving you all the benefits of the whole, unprocessed fruit when rehydrated.
What is a Prebiotic?
Prebiotics are non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth and/or activity of one or a limited number of bacteria in the colon. They are a type of dietary fiber that acts as food for the beneficial bacteria in your gut.
How do I really know that’s all that is in there?
We are regulated by the FDA/ USDA. Therefore we have to be 100% transparent about our ingredients. Fruits, veggies, and some natural flavor. That’s it.
Is there protein?
Yes, 3 grams. That said, we don’t intend to mix protein powders into it because everyone wants something different! This way, you aren’t stuck with whey, collagen, pea, etc., when you don’t want it.
Does protein powder mix in well?
Yes. Many users report they add collagen, vanilla whey, or other forms of protein and add 3-4 ounces more of water and get great results.
Can I add more water?
Yes. We suggest 8oz as it makes it thick and mimics the texture of a smoothie. However, some users add 10-12oz because they like it thinner.
Can my body digest this?
Yes. Your body was designed to process the nutrients of this smoothie. Real fruits and veggies make your body happy. Your body is using the Switchback the way it would use fruits and veggies straight from your counter or fridge.
Why isn't there an organic version?
While we believe in organic, we know that consumers are price sensitive. An organic version with the same formula would add significantly to the cost of our product. If we get enough feedback and people are willing to pay the difference, we will happily launch an organic version!
Does the product go bad?
Yes, all foods eventually go bad. These products have nearly all of their moisture removed, limiting the ability of microbial growth, but our shelf life is 18 months. We suggest drinking it quickly, not for shelf life, but because your body will appreciate it!
Do kids really like these?
Yes. They were designed with kids in mind. Kids as young as 11 months old have tried them and loved them. Sure, some kids won’t drink them because of their color; however, in our studies, most kids will drink them and ask for more.
Can I mix with other liquids?
Yes. This mixes well with various liquids or even into your homemade smoothie (why not double the nutrition!). We suggest water; however, people have mixed it into yogurt, coconut water, and a variety of others successfully. Remember, the flavor is subject to each person; if someone else mixes it with something, that doesn’t mean you will like it that way too! When added to anything other than water, it will significantly alter the user experience and flavor.
Can I make it ahead of time?
but we haven’t seen significant settling. Shake, stir, or simply start drinking! Refrigerate after making it if you don’t intend to drink it immediately.
I noticed clumps. Is that normal?
Yes, much of our flavor comes from the fruit. Freeze-dried fruit is hygroscopic and LOVES to suck up moisture quickly. Rest assured, the vast majority of clumps are fruit clumps. As my daughter says, “Dad, I don’t mind the clumps because it’s a fruit burst!” This might be a good time to consider why all of the other powders you use haven’t clumped…
Is this product heat sensitive?
No, it is shelf stable and can sit in your car, desk, or pantry before mixing it. When the packet undergoes extreme temperature/humidity changes, it can increase clumping. However, it doesn’t alter the food safety.
What is freeze drying?
Freeze drying is arguably the greatest natural food preservation technique. It was designed by NASA to remove moisture from food, making it shelf stable and easily transportable. Often, freeze-drying can maintain better nutrient profiles because the fruits and veggies can be picked at their ripest (when they are the most nutrient-dense), and the nutrients can be locked in by freeze-drying.
